(TSXV: SSC)

VANCOUVER , Oct. 21 /CNW/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. has received an order from the third largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom to install Smartcool's energy-saving refrigeration and air conditioning control technology into a further eight (8) stores.

Upon completion of this program, Smartcool will have installed its technology in 37 stores owned by Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd. In total, Sainsbury's has nearly 800 stores in the UK.

Sainsbury's is an industry leader for environmental initiatives highlighted by its innovative Re-Set Program that is focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to the environmental benefits provided by Smartcool's energy saving technology, called the ESM(TM), the reduction in power usage also provides significant cost savings allowing Sainsbury's to re-invest in its own business.

"We are extremely pleased with the ongoing relationship with Sainsbury's," said Steven Martin , Sales Director, Smartcool Systems (EMEA) Ltd. "The ESM(TM) has been approved by the 'Centre of Excellence' which is a requirement for any technology to be implemented within a Sainsbury's store. We will continue to work alongside Sainsbury's energy management group as they expand their 'Re-Set' Program and we look to provide significant cost savings as well as helping Sainsbury's meet environmental expectations."

The ESM(TM) has been installed in stores of various sizes and has been generating power savings in the range of 15% to 25%, depending on size and location. These results have been independently monitored by Sainsbury's project management company.

"Tough economic times require changes in attitude and thinking," added George Burnes , President and CEO of Smartcool Systems Inc. "We are delighted to be working with an industry leader that is seriously addressing their economic requirements without ignoring environmental responsibility and energy sustainability. As the Re-Set Program is adopted in other stores, we are excited that Smartcool has an approved technology generating the economic and environmental benefits Sainsbury's is looking for."
